A new dark-field microscope called Gemmaster, which has spectrolight dark-field illumination, has been introduced by Eickhorst & Co in Hamburg in Germany. The advantage of spectrolight is that it keeps the microscope stage cool, even after hours of work, according to the manufacturer. Gemmaster combines state-of-the-art lighting technology with ergonomy and working comfort.
“Spectrolight high-intensity coldlight power providing an illuminance of 50.000 Lux. The digital power supply guarantees flicker-free operation, which is of course also dimmable, and for the first time darkfield illuminaton provides daylight of 6,00 Kelvin colour temperature. And the stage stays cool at 25 degrees Celsius.”
Other important features for comfortable and effective work include:
- Two USB plug & play ports for coldlight LED pin-pointer and other USB accessories.
- The multiple magnetic click sockets to mount the stoneholder magnetically at a personal, most ergonomic position.
- Stage tilting for comfortable eyepieces level no matter whether the operator is short or tall .
- Ergonomic stage design for comfortable wirst and finger positioning.
- Full rotation of base, while power cord stays stationary.

Gemmaster is available with either
a Leica optical system (see picture) or a German-made Zeiss optical system, which is even trinocular
for digital shooting. Both manu-facturers are well-known for their high quality products. For those who already have a microscope with a convent-ional darfk-field, e.g. GemoLite, and the optics are in good condition, they can benefit from this microscope revolution by a simple upgrade, the company said. The old dark-field base is simply exchanged for the new Cool-Touch dark-field system and base. Just a few screws on the focusing column need to be loosened and tightened again.
